Any other Australian Shepherd Owners on here?

Allalaskan

The Crazy Alaskan
Well, I was curios if there was any one else on here that owned Aussies. I use to have a aussie mix that I had to leave with my mother in law in Texas for HIS own health. It really really hurt me to leaver him there, he was my best bud for 11 years , but it was for the best.

After I moved back up here I picked up a pitbull mix, he is sweet heart but is about as smart as a box of rocks haha. I miss nick (my old aussie mix) and how smart he was.

Well the other night I saw an add for some pure breed aussie pups for sale a few hours away (Saldotna for those of you Alaskans). And it just so happens that atm I have the money for one! Sooooo, hopefully this upcoming Wednesday I will be able to go down and take a good look at the parents and pups and if they are all in good health God willing I will pick one of them

The Dad is Papered and from a reliable breeder and the mother i was told is not papered but is also a pure breed. Since the mother isn't papered she is only wanting $350 each for the pups. From the sounds of it it sounds like the litter was an "accident" because she told me on the phone that her female will NOT be having another litter lol.

ANy way, It just got me thinking I wonder if any one else on here has had or has an Australian Shepherd. If you do post pics.

This is Nick, the one I had to leave behind with my mother in law for his own health (Old dogs hips dont do well in cold weather, and he was having a hard time with it getting cold in Texas. So I was afraid bringing him backup here would have finished him off. Leaving him behind was one of the hardest things I have had to do )

If you own one, post up some pics

I would like to add though, even though his shape isnt that of a aussie, he mentally was like them, VERY VERY smart, was extremely agile for a "big" dog (90 lbs). My point is, I know there needs of being challenged both Mentally and physically. The thing I love about this breed though is how smart they really are.

Other words, Nick was like an aussie in every way (even his instinct to heard lol) except on his shape haha.

I am really looking forward to owning another Aussie, I hope every thing goes well :D

I owned an Aussie/Border Collie mix for 12 years. I raised quarter horses in Florida and ran a boarding stable. I bought her when she was 8 weeks old from a breeder for $25.00. She was beautiful. Sable and white with classic collie markings. This pup was extremely smart. I only had to tell her something once and from then on she knew what to do. She brought the horses in from pasture, helped load horses in the trailer, helped me train young horse to lunge in a round pen, etc. etc. She was the smartest dog I had ever had. She knew the property bounderies and never strayed outside them. She brought a male Border Collie home ( he lived just on the other side of my property line, his Mom said my dog never crossed the line) one time and got pregnant with his pups, the pups were spoken for before they were born. They looked just like purebred Border Collies and all of them lived up to their mom's reputation. Sadly, she was sticken with cancer at the age of 12 and died in the emergency room after suffering a seizure. She never showed any signs of illness until the day she died. Her name was Roxie. RIP Roxie, you are loved and missed. Good luck with your new pup, they are pretty amazing.

I know I can never replace Nick, but he sure did sell me on the Aussie breed!

What you said about your aussie/collie really reminded me of how nick was. He was the same way, he knew exactly where his boundaries were (even in Texas where he had free reign of 160 acres) and knew not to cross them. I have heard really good things about collies too, so it sounds like yours had great genetics.

Im so excited, I cant wait for Wednesday hahaha.

I want an Aussie or blue heeler so bad. The only thing is I don't want a docked tail on the heeler. Aussies are just about the sweetest dogs I've ever met.

Just so you know, its not that uncommon for them to actually be born bob tailed :D

So some that you see the tails may not have actually been docked but born that way.

Im sure how ever if you were to find a breeder who was expecting a litter and tell them you want one that does not have the tail docked they may let you pick yours before they dock and keep yours that way. I also found out that over in Europe its actually illegal to dock them!

As an aussie enthusiast I don't even want to comment on this thread. I love the breed, but please join this forum : aussieboard.info and they will set you straight with this current arrangement/mini aussie/ etc .... please do join!

Well, I ended up not getting it :( The night before my wife had a change of heart and decided she really didnt want another dog, so being the loving husband I am instead of going down and getting it any way (It crossed my mind LOL) I decided not to get it. I dont know why she changed her mind so suddenly but rather than deal with an angery wife I decided it was best not to get the dog lol.

O well, some day :(
