Anybody got any clues about this guy???

Too Far Gone
I bought this corn as a Anery Creamsicle het amel. I paid $25 for him. A year later he is 210 grams and about 36 inches long, but that is not what I have questions about. I would like to get as many opions on him as possible. His color is what gets me...to be a ghost he would have to have reduced black, to be an anery he would have to have no red (flesh color on him) plus more yellow.

Thanks CHarlene Dourty

I'd say he's probably a light anery...I don't think it's only the hypo in ghosts that cause that flesh color to show up (also being anery)...the color isn't caused by red pigments, probably a 'brown' melanin?...and yellow doesn't always go hand-in-hand with anery.

You said anery creamsicle...that means it's an anery emoryi corn...a hybrid between a great plains rat snake and a corn snake. That could explain it's color. Snakes mixed with emoryi seem to be brighter/lighter colored.

Ghost!!!!

Its a ghost. Looks typical to me. Ghosts have a lot of pink. It seems to be dimorphic....males are brighter pink, females duller.

Ghost is a possiblity but ghosts would have those black borders....hypo would cancel some of the black out. It just doesn't make since. I am going to do some breeding trials this spring. Hopefully...he's only a year old and I don't know how he will react.

Just be sure to sell his babies as hybrids since you did buy him as a creamsicle! It's important for people to know if they are buying a pure corn or not.

Thanks for the tip..though I will probably keep anything he produces for the first couple years. I just don't know what the heck I got here and what I can plan to breed him with

Charlene

Just got some info about his parents....his father was a ghost and mother was a red cream...now I have no idea yet of what both parents were het for when bred but I think this snake is a keeper. I will keep you guys informed on what I learn.

Charlene

If his father was a ghost and his mother was a red creamsicle, then he is most likely more than 3/4ths cornsnake. Usually red creams have more corn blood than emoryi blood. 50/50 corn emoryi crosses tend to be more yellow to orange due to the emoryi influence. Of course, all of the babies will still be hybrids (or intergrades...depending on who you talk to) regardless of how much emoryi blood they have. The babies should still be sold as corn emoryi crosses.

Also, if the mother was het anery, then he could be an anery emoryi corn. He would be het amel and hypo, too.

If the mother was NOT het anery, then he is a "normal" emoryi corn het snow (amel and anery) and hypo. I use the term "normal" loosely because due to the emoryi influence a normal emoryi corn will look a lot different from a pure "normal" corn or emoryi.

Of course, this doesn't figure in if the parents were het for anything else as well.

Well as of right now...he is still a big blank. Both me and the guy I bought him from are still puzzled. I believe that next breeding season we are going to breed him back to his mom and to a ghost. First of all, I wouldn't feel right selling one of his babies as a pure corn. A hybrid could ruin a breeders future and reputation if not sold correcty or so I believe. I want to breed him to a ghost to prove that he is indeed a ghost and to his mother to try and figure out exactly what all he is carrying. Now for him to be ghost, his mother would have had to be het both anery and hypo, correct?

Charlene

Yes...that is correct. His mother would have had to be het anery and hypo for him to be a ghost. I am leaning toward him being exactly what he was sold as...an anery emoryi corn (creamsicle is only the amel version of an emoryi and corn cross).

I am glad to hear that all of his offspring will be sold as hybrids. I really like hybrids and intergrades, but I feel VERY strongly when it comes to being certain they are not misrepresented.
