Ok, as most of you know, I've had "issues" with a friend over the past months, mostly with Chester (amel corn). I went on and on about how horrible she was and everything, but to be honest... it isnt true. I guess I was angry and just wanted to have people on my side, so I blew things way out of proportion until she seemed like the worst person on earth.

Her first couple snakes came from chain petstores, and they had mites. When she took them to the vet for treatment, they were given something that killed their appetite, so they wouldnt eat, and died either because of that or from the mites. When she was given Chester, he was already about 2 yrs old, and doing fine, so she didnt change anything in how he was kept. Later, when she was getting mice for him, the people at Petco told her he should be on rats, so she switched him over. Thats how Chester got to be overweight. My friend just didnt know, so she did what she thought was best. Basically, she was just a kid when she got Chester, and thought she could believe people at a petstore. She didnt know snakes could get overweight, and I thought he was fine until I saw others here on the forum.

Later, when she got Miloh (ball python) she didnt know he would be burned, since Chester had always been fine on the heat pad he had. When he DID get burned, she was really upset, was crying, took him to the vet and everything. She taped a pillowcase to the inside bottom of tank so he wouldnt burn again.

Her setup really isnt bad, even though she doesnt have a rheostat or thermostat. She uses the pillowcases because she cant afford a thermostat, and its worked so far. Her bps all have good humidity and everything.

The incident with the mouse bite was pure accident, because she stuns them before she feeds her snake, but somehow one woke up and fought back. Now she makes sure they arent going to wake up. Miloh wont eat frozen mice, she has tried. She's going to switch him over to frozen rats though when she's able, he seems to like those well enough.

When she mentioned maybe wanting Chester back, I admit I exaggerated about it and freaked out a bit. She says she doesnt want him back after all, but my reaction was just ridiculous in the first place.

I really dont know why I pretty much stabbed her in the back like that, I guess its just some passive aggressive bull sh*t. I dont really expect people to like me much after reading this, but thats the price I'm paying. I just dont want people to think she is some horrible monster like I led you all to believe, because it isnt at all true. She might be going to the Daytona with me if I go, and the last thing I want is for people here to meet her and see her as that horrible non-existent person.

(((Katie))) It takes a HUGE leap of faith to go out on the limb you have and admit this. I've met your friend, and she DOES seem like a nice person. You know the people here, they're all about doing what's right for the animals. I'm very glad to hear the she truly is trying to house them properly. And you, my hoosier friend, have just had an epiphony. You'll take it with you in your journey, trust me. ;)

Tell your friend to go to Walmart or HomeDepot and get the "plug in" style lamp dimmers. They're like $8 and work just like a rheostat. If you can afford a $40 Ball python plus cage and accessories... you can afford an $8 lamp dimmer.

((Lori)) Thanks, Lori. I'm glad you dont hate me, you're probably the sweetest person I know. ;) She really is nice, regardless of what I've said about her.

How could I POSSIBLY hate my (not so) poofy-headed snake friend? Babes, if this is the biggest screw-up you ever make in your life, you're waaay ahead of the game. ****hugs****

I doubt it will be the biggest, but its definitely up there.

I wouldn't hate you because you were angry and blew something up more then it actual was. Pretty much everyone has over exaggerated things when they were really angry, it's natural. It took a lot of courage to admit to everyone here that you blew things up and she isn't as bad as you made her seem. I understand she was young and believed wrong info given to her, even I did that a few times but I do think she should have realized sooner that Chester wasn't healthy like that but at least she gave her to you to get better and has taken her sick snakes to she a vet in the past. Hopefully she will continue to learn about her animals and she can prevent things like what happen to Chester and Miloh. But I'm still really glad you get to keep Chester.

Thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one, though it doesnt excuse it. She didnt know he could be overweight or that he was, and thought he was fine. I didnt know he was overweight either until I had something for comparison.
