Average hatchling size?

Since there are so many breeders here, I wanted to know what the average size of a hatchling is. I cannot find an average length in any of my cornsnake books, or other snake books. I was just wondering for my curiosity. Also, couldn't this help to age the snake when you get it from a pet store, since most of the time they have no clue on how old the snake is.

Hi, I'm not a breeder, so I can't tell you exactly how big a hatchling is. But a lot of the breeders here have posted pictures of their hatchlings, and they should give you a general idea.

Also, a hatchling's growth depends a LOT on how often it's fed, what it's fed, and even to some extend, what the mouse that it eats is fed. And some hatchlings just grow faster than others, so it's very hard to guess how old a snake is from it's size.

I've seen pictures of some member's '05s that looked more like '04s or '03s. And there are also that are only half the size they should be because of regurg or escape etc.

Hi,
We hatched out 5 clutches this year and all of the babies were between 8"-10" long and weighed between 6 - 9 grams. Hope this helps.

I'd sayl an average hatchling length is around 10-11 inches, range of about 8 to 12 inches.

Average weight seems to be around 6-8 grams, range of 3 to 10 grams in hatchlings I've seen. 3 grammers are really tiny and often don't thrive. 10 grammers are monsters out of Okeetee stock.
