Beginner Breeding?

the year old amel cornsnake i own right now is the only snake ive ever owned, but he seems to be very healthy (im not sure if HE is actually a HE though..) so i was wondering if later down the road i have the money, what would be needed to breed? just the basic things id need to know being that im new to this all around, just curious in case i ever decide to. thanks alot

Obviously a male and a female, a place to incubate the eggs, a way to keep those eggs warm, and a good understanding of genetics.

if we were lucky enough to find that my amel is one gender while the snow my girlfriend wants is the other, what type of breed would come as a result if we breeded them later down the road?

How big is he?
Sexual maturity is based on physical size rather than age in the corn snake world.

Just adding a sidenote here.

Like I said in the other thread, if you do come to Tallahassee for another snake, I can sex your amel before you buy the snow.

Snow x amel would give you all amels het for anery (snow).

well tomorrow is mine and her anniversary so id like to buy the snow tomorrow.. on the other hand, i could buy another snake for myself later just to breed with mine or something.. do you have any examples though of the breed that wed get if the amel and snow worked out to be diff genders?

If you were to get a snow corn and mate it with your amel, you would get all amels het for anery. All of the babies would look like the snake you've got right now.

That's what you're asking, right?

you need to get Kathy Love's book. It might help you understand more things;)

it covers breeding, the several different recessive traits, etc...
