Bicolor Hognose Hook-up

DeadMouse

Hungry, hungry Hognose!
This is a very exciting time for us as our bicolor hognose have been very sexually active.

I first put them together last week after my female put on some much needed weight and my male was just constantly on the prowl in his tank even though he's upstairs and she's downstairs. The whole ritual was very interesting and definitely a lot more exciting to watch live than on any of the videos I have seen online. Fortunately, I was able to videotape about 45 minutes of it but was not able to shoot any pictures. During that first time, they must have hooked up 5-6 times if not more. After several hours, I ended up separating them as I could tell the female was tired of being harassed by the male.

Four days later I reintroduced them because the male was once again on the prowl. But upon reintroduction, neither one really proved all that interested, at least not like the first time, so I decided to leave them together for a couple of days. They basically just slept together in the hide box until the male apparently wanted out of her tank.

Then last night (11/01), the male was once again on the prowl, so again I put him in with the female who seemed a lot more receptive to him like she was the first time. As far as I can tell, they've been at it all night long because when I woke up today, the male was still all over the female and somehow she was putting up with him. Even last night after what appeared to be a few hook-ups, I noticed some type of bodily fluid coming out of the males cloaca, quite possibly sperm. I tried to get a picture of it, but by time I focused in on it, he had wiped it all over the female

Here's a couple of pictures of the two lovebirds:

I sure hope we get some viable clutches out of these two. They were claimed to be proven breeders when we got them but I never did get a clear answer how those clutches turned out.

Enjoy! :D

HUGE congratulations. You must post lots of photos of the gravid girl ... and then her eggs ... and then the babies, especially the ones you decide to keep. Stunning snakes, I bet there'll be equally stunning babies soon enough.

Oh you better believe I'll be posting more pictures as any type of progression occurs :D

We're especially interested how the offspring will turn out. Since not a lot seems to be known about these bicolors, we're not entirely sure if they are a color morph (as some who breed tricolors will sometimes although rarely get a bicolor from a clutch) or if they are a sub-species of L. Pulcher as was pondered by the original owner. The originall owner also claimed that the hatchlings of these bicolors will start out as tricoloreds and after a few sheds will lose most if not all of the red. So, not only are we excited about just getting anything out of these guys, the suspense of not even knowing what to really expect from the offspring is killing us ;)

And you better believe we'll be holding back a few of these guys of course depending on how many we get. We were told that the females can and will lay more than 10 clutches a season. This of course scares me since I don't know if I'd be able to get rid of that many or not ;)

Anywho, here's a pic of Twilight, the female, while being wooed:

That sounds amazing. I will be waiting with bated breath to find out how it all goes for you. I love L. Pulcher ... I find it quite amazing that we don't have any! But I think I'll wait for you to prove out the bicolours as a separate morph, and then we'll organise taking some of those spare hatchlings from you :dancer:
