big breeders

I was wondering how all you big breeders manage to keep so many snakes. What do you keep them in for example... Does anyone have pictures?

Thanx!

P.S. I want to expand on my cornsnake interset, but Im running out of room already! I think that a twenty gallon aquarium is enough room for a corn snake, but they take up a lot of space. I've thought of making a room just for them. Any suggestions, pix of setups ext would be appreciated. :)

I am definitely NOT a big breeder, but here's what I keep all my snakes in. I currently have a collection of 37 corns, and built these myself. I just recently built two more along with a hatchling rack, and including the Sterilite containers it only cost around $350. In the two adult/sub-adult racks I can house 12 adults OR 24 sub-adults, or any other combination. The smaller containers are 15 Qt. Sterilite and the larger ones are 32 Qt. Sterilite. Target was the only place I could find these sizes around here. Everyplace else had 12 Qt. and 28 Qt. The wood is melamine coated pressboard. It's heavy, but very functional and sturdy.

I heat with 2, 3 foot sections of 11" Flexwatt attached to pegboard on the back, and controlled with dimmer switches.

I'm not a big breeder either. I have 107 corn snakes but here's an example of how I keep them

What consitiutes a "big" breeder? Personaly I would not call 107 Corn Snakes a small breeder :) That is a very nice set-up Tanya. Did you build them yourselfe or buy them?

Jeff C.

Thank you, Jeff. Someone built them for me so I was very lucky. I'm absolutely no good at building things unless it's flat-pack so I was rather fortunate to have these made.

I would not consider myself a big breeder at all "for now" but here is my set up "for now" :D

Those are pretty nice set ups... I'm impressed. I don't think I'd ever have as many snakes (well maybe when I get my own house haha) Thank you for the responses.

Lets say I wanted to start a setup similar to the ones you have posted (not as big of course), how would i go about building one, just like an ordinary shelving sysem?

Thanx again, its really cool to see the differences....

Hoss, i would very much like to make my set up almost exactly like yours :p I've been looking for shelving systems but i have to ask, did you buy ir make that one? Also, can u also tell me what type of heat tape you use?

Swing, short answer (for racks):
1. Figure out what containers you want to use. There are a lot to choose from as I found out doing my research.
2. Measure the height, length and width of the container.
3. Determine how many containers you want.
4. Draw up your plans for the rack, yes similar to a shelving unit. Figure out how much and what type of wood you want to use. (Again, there area lot of choices to go with here as well.)
5. Build it. You want the containers to fit snugly between shelves, so through the building portion, I actually placed the containers on the shelves as I built it, putting in 3-4 sheets of cardstock paper to provide spacers to account for settling later on.

All the big breeders are probably going nuts right now. Those are nice setups! I especially like Tanya's set up, but for the mean time I'm happy with what I have right now.

Hockeystop...
nice set up but how on earth do you choose who lives in the two snakes palaces and who stays in the backpackers hostel ;)

Hehehe The Backpackers hostel is where I keep all the hatchlings. The palaces are were I keep a couple breeding pairs.
