Butters & Golddusts

LoveHolic

Ultra Maniac!
Hey guys, I'm pretty sure this was addressed or asked before but I can't seem to find an actual answer. How exactly do you tell the difference between a butter & golddust corn? I want to breed my amel, whom looks like a butter to my ultramel motley. But I'm wondering what will their offspring be like and what can I expect?

I believe you have the sibling to my butter? You will have to upload updated pictures but I believe yours is in fact a butter. I proved mine butter as well as being het anery this year. So your could also be het anery as well as het charcoal. But anyway as for your original question how to tell the difference. The biggest difference is the eyes. Butters will have red pupils with a yellowish iris. Golddust have ruby pupils with a greenish iris.

So butters have an yellow iris, gold dust has green, but they both have red pupils? Oh yeah, the are siblings! I haven't got the chance to breed him yet, so that's why I was wondering actually. Oh man, I haven't took pictures of him in ages! He's in shed right now, so once he's done I'll post a picture so you see his lovely vibrant shades! How's Prudence by the way, do you have pics of her also?! :D

She is great. I will have to get some new pictures but she is a fantastic color of yellow. She was bred to my red factor Het snow this year and gave me two cute little anerys in the clutch as well. She is still one of my favorites.

Yeah they both have red pupils but the gold dusts will be a darker shade kind of like you see on your ultramel.

Ahahaha, thanks Dave. Hopefully I won't be asking again! It does seem a little difficult to tell the difference, but I see what everyone means when they talk about the eyes. From what I am seeing, I am pretty sure Dusty is a butter which is amel het caramel would it be? Anyways, thank you so much, guys!

Dusty is actually homo amel and caramel his hets would be charcoal and ph anery. Who knows what else is lurking in these kids?

Ahh! Thanks for clarifying that for me Christen, I'm still very new to the concept of their genetics.

Question since this is a thread related to butters. As a baby, a butter that is dark red versus one that is lighter, does the darker the baby mean the darker yellow the adult might be? Any correlation? Thanks.

I am not sure there is much correlation but if your snake is in fact a butter and not an amel I can tell you that my butter here, and I am sure the OPs is the same, were very dark as babies almost amel looking and my girl has turned into the brightest yellow butter I have seen. So maybe there is something to it. I don't know.
