Carpet or EcoEarth?

I've used some kind of wood substrate for a couple years now, but today I was in a hurry and put my snake's mouse on his substrate and a small piece of it stuck to the mouse and he swallowed it :( I kind of want to use some indoor outdoor carpet so I can monitor when he defecates to make sure it's regular, but after I'm sure everything's ok.. would the EcoEarth stuff be better?

Your not sure of what type of wood substrate you used???

But anyway, if you feed in a separate container you will solve that problem. and while the snake in in that container you can clean the viv out.

It's just a kind i've always used from the local pet store, just can't remember lol.. darker color though..

So I gather that the pet shop sells either the dark wood substrate (reptile bark??), EcoEarth or carpet for bedding. Ask if the sell aspen.

i think that the carpet would be better for monitoring poos, its not a dark color, and eco earth is dark in color and prolly make it a lil bit hard to even see the poo....i def have to agree with lennycorn, try to find aspen its cheap looks half way good, and you can def. montitor poos...

I would say both, carpets helpful for monitoring health whereas with other substrates they can burry themselves in it, which to them in amusing!

At the end of the day, you have heard our advice now it is up to you! Good luck choosing :)

What you could do if have carpet for a while then have another substrate and monitor what one the snake prefers!

GRR! SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING MISTAKES! :rofl:

sorry =[

Go for aspen, it's cheap, looks good and as others have said, you can easily see any faeces. Also, aspen is a great medium for burrowing, and it acts as one big hide. Carpet is okay, but excrement often gets trapped, and since Corns will naturally burrow under it they often come into contact with it for long periods of time, this promotes bacteria growth and can cause serious problems in the future.

Ingestion of a substrate is a serious issue, I'm sure this once he'll be okay, but in future, I'd feed in a seperate box (a plastic storage box works fine) free of all substrate.

All the best

David
