I have seen some pics of motley and the circles go about 5-6 down before they connect on the sides. I have seen others that have virtually no connection on the sides almost all the way down. Then, I see others that appear striped to me, though may have a elongated circle 3/4 way down their spine, then a stripe begins again.

Kathy, Motleys can be quite variable. The one constant, is that MOST have a clean ventral, absent of checkering. It is popularly believed that Motley and Stripe are somewhat connected and might explain the great variance. Here's a Motley that, to me, does not look like your average Motley :shrugs:
 
Would banded's fall into the same sort of "lack of a belly pattern" that mots & stripes do?
