corn or rat snake?

had our gorgeous orange corn snake for six months now, first reptile ever. bought another `corn` black and white from a pet shop. been told by a couple of people that it may be a rat snake, it`s only ten inches long and has same type of markings as our corn snake. how can i tell if it`s a rat snake and wahts the main differences. our corn is beautiful and placid and an escapee sliding loose in the house at the moment. missing week back for 48 hrs and escaped again. the black and white one is more eratic and unsettled and just not the same. any ideas guys?
 
Corns are rat snakes, but there are a few different species that are closely related. It is normal for younger animals to be a bit more jumpy, that's what keeps them alive in the wild. Is there any way you could get a picture? Most folks on here could tell you if it's another kind of rat by looking at it.
 
thanks, still quite new to this, guy who told me it was a rat snake make it sound like it was a totally different species and somehow worse than a corn, it`s sweet just a bit mad. maybe needs handlin bit more, i`ve not handled it much cos i`ve been to busy looking for and missing fluffy. got pics but they come up as to big to put on site, getting that sorted in next few days so i`ll put some pics on of `cuddles` the black an white one and `fluffy` who some folk on here know due to me being distraught and stroppy when she escaped the first time. thanks for yr time x x x
