Should i get a thermostat for my under tank heater. Also would it be a good idea to get a light for my snake because i live in pennsylvania and it sometimes gets cold. A should i put news paper under aspen bedding so the snake doesnt get burned on the uth
 
thermostat would be nice if your willing to pay for it...everyone I think has a different opinoin on this issue. Personally, I have a snake that has an UTH. I have no thermostat, and he is just fine. Corn snakes WILL move when they get hot to regulate their body temp. I do offer this snake extra aspen bedding.
If you want to add a heat light, please just make sure that your snake can't reach it and burn itself. Hope this helps you some.
 
I would say definitely get a thermostat..UTH that aren't controlled by a thermostat or rheostat can get extremely hot extremely fast. Even putting extra aspen or newspaper won't totally eliminate the dangers..So I would say yes to the thermostat..as far as a light is concerned..as long as your snake has a temp on the warm side of 82-86 and a temp on the cool side of 70-75 then you should be fine..If it gets into the low 60's you may want to get a light but I would suggest a red light as snakes can't see red light so it won't mess up your snake's clock of night and day..Also be aware that lights do dry out the humidity in a tank..so during periods of your snake shedding you might want to keep the light off and have the humidity raised a bit to help the snake with it's shed..good luck..
