corn snake vs ball python care

Hello all,

I am wondering is there any big difference between caring of corn snake and ball python?

From what I read online, it seems the feeding and housing requirement are very similar.

thanks in advance!

This is my guide to ball python care. Give it a read and check out a few other care sheets.

The care is different in many ways. Corns are generally much much easier to keep.

If you have never owned a snake before I recommend a corn snake first, then after a while maybe try a ball python.

A Ball Python How-to by BloodyBaroness

When we were deciding what kind of snake we wanted to add to our family, the local ma & pop pet store recommended Corn Snakes or Ball Pythons. I started researching and Corns seemed more low maintenance for us as first time snake owners. Like Autumn said there are several differences in care between them but the biggest turn off for us was that Balls can be picky eaters. They can go for months refusing what you try to feed them. Not only would I have been freaking out over why our snake wasn't eating, but once you thaw their furry cuisine if they don't eat it's trash, and that is a waste of money. Not something my husband would be happy about... We ended up getting 2 Corn snakes and both are wonderful eaters, they prefer the dangle of death over just having their food placed in the feeding tub, but they have always eaten for us.

There are some big differences. Ball pythons require higher humidity and slightly different temperatures, can refuse to eat f/t more readily than live, and will grow larger so they'll need rats as adults.

thank you for the replies!
I have read the link from BloodyBarnoness( pretty darn good info there!)
Will also read more books on the ball python before deciding to get one.
