Corn Snakes and Ball Pythons Housing

Bug22baby

Snakes and more Snakes
So right now I have 6 Corn Snakes, I been wanting to get a ball python for a while now and am in the process of getting things ready before next months reptile show when I finally get a ball. So my question is for the people out there who have both balls and corns. Having balls in the same room as corns does that stress either of them out. I also house my snakes in home made houses. I attached a picture of one of them to show what they look like and most are similar to that. With that they are multi unit houses together kind of like a display rack. If I were to house corns in one and balls in another in the same housing unit would that be too stressful. Any feedback would be helpful, Im in the process of making more houses for my new addition and want to get as much information as I can before the ball python arives. Thanks Much Amanda

I have 1 bp and 10 corns. I have never noticed the bp being stressed by these living arrangements. I do, however, put up something to block view between any two cages just in case. This seems to work out fine. But then again, who knows with ball pythons. They can be stressed by their own shadow at times..

That setup will work, provided a few things.

1) If you buy a new BP, you need to quarantine it before putting it around your cornsnakes.

2) BP's require higher temps than corns do---how do you plan on heating your display cages?

3) BP's require higher humidity than corns do---can your display cages handle that, since they're made of wood?

I have had a corn snake and ball python in seperate tanks but right next to each other for a few months now.

All I did was place something between the tanks so they could not see each other. They are both active and I haven't noticed any changes in behaviour, even when they are out being held or getting ready to eat.

The BP will require more heat, but I took care of that pretty easily with a bigger heat mat and heating lamp on one side.

As a side note, has anyone ever had a Kenyan Sand Boa? I was thinking about picking one up but I'm pretty undecided.

kenyans are great. They are very easy to keep, very calm and docile, and they are CUTE! I have four of them, and I love them. They are about as easy to care for as a corn, if not easier.

I haven't owned one but I've handled MANY of them. They are extremely sweet and from what I heard easy to care for(like what Jynx said).

First question...

I have 6 ball pythons and 11 corns in the same racking system (as well as Dumeril's Boas and BCI)...and haven't ever noticed ANY problems...

My kingsnakes are kept about 5 feet away...and never notice any problems there either...

Oh, yeah...sorry...

KSB are really easy and docile...
I wouldn't hesitate in getting any...

I don't currently have any in my collection...but have spent plenty of time with them...and would recommend them to most anyone...

Jynx,Guenhwyvar & Alias47:

Do any of you know a decent price? the one I can buy is around $120 CDN and probably a late '04.

Bug22baby:

Sorry for hijacking your post.

I recently bought a female anery KSB for my normal male. She is an 04 and I paid $65 US for her. $120 seems a bit high, but if the quality of the animal is good, that is all that is important.

I keep my kenyans, red tails, and corns all in the same rack and they don't seem to mind one another at all. I wouldn't introduce them of course, but they seem to live next door to each other just fine.

Those are very nice looking cages. The wood is beautiful. Very tasteful and furniture like. Good Job!

I agree!!!

I really don't know what their availability is like in Canada...or where to get one up there...
pretty close to $100US ($98.98) which isn't too far out of range...especially if they aren't readily available...

I have several Kenyans...They're great little snakes. Don't get any bigger than about 2 feet, but do get very 'girthy'. Price depends on morph and hets.
In my experience (hatchlings) are priced as follows:
...This is a ballpark..........

Normal: 30-55
Anery: 55-90
Albino:110-150
Snow: 200+

Right now my baby KSB is a biter. He's known as Fang. Do they mellow out with age? Or lots of handling?
I'd have to say that I've never been bitten (or even struck at) by a KSB. I do handle all of my snakes pretty regularly (no small feat with the 50+ I have now), so maybe that's why? They, in general seem pretty docile to me.
