Corns Bites?

zapthycat

I'm a Daddy!!!
Hey guys,

Do your Corns bite you, or have they even? Does it draw blood? Does it hurt or cause infection...?

Do you wear gloves when you feed them?

Is this a common occurance? Just wondering if someone can help out a noobie.

I did a few searches, haven't found much about this.

Thanks!

Yes some corns bite. Some in fact love to bite---or so it seems. Yes bites from yearlings to adults normally draw blood----bites from adults 99% of the time will. Does it hurt? No, but it's not a pleasant experience to get tagged over and over, even when it's just a yearling or hatchling. As long as you wash your hands you won't have a problem with infection.

I don't wear gloves, but I also feed with 10" tongs because some of my adults are quite the vicious eaters and will really tag anything that moves once they enter the feeding tub---and when the smell of mice or rat is in the air I don't want to try and dislodge a fully grown 5ft snake off my hand or arm.

Some snakes will always bite---some never will. Some will when they're in blue, others won't. It's a personality thing.

I too feed my adult with tongs as he is really a voracious feeder. The others I just dangle the mouse and they grab it.

My Snake always bites!!

My snake only bites whe nI pull him out of the cage. Other than that he's fine. I just use a drumstick to pick him up with now :grin01:

I've had my corn for 2 years now, and so I guess I'm lucky that he's never bitten me ever. He's also 2 years old, as I got him when he was a hatchling. It's wierd because he never even rattled, struck, attempted to bite or strike, or anything --- even when he was a baby! :grin01:

I've had my little guy for a year... well, it will be a year at the end of this month.. And he's never bitten me.. I think he head butted me once. . long ago.. but otherwise it just depends on the snake... some bite some don't, some run before they'd ever bite... Also you may want to know they are more likely to try bitting while in blue phase. "shed"
