Cornsnake escape...vicious game of hide and seek

 My name is Joe, and I am fairly new to this forum.
I have a situation on my hands.....
I just got another corn on Sunday and he has disappeared.
He isnt very big, but he isnt that small either (about 14-15 inches).
I was keeping him in an aquarium which has fairly high walls and I thought it would be difficult to get out (yes, there was no lid on at the time). The only way I think he could have gotten out would to climb small cactus in aquarium.
But anyways, he is gone. I noticed a couple minutes later that the front door was open a crack and the outter door was also open a crack....it's under 40 degrees outside though. If he felt the cold would he been apprehensive to have gone out. We have searched high and low for him. In everything, under everything. Dont know what to do. Am I able to lure him out maybe if I put a fuzzie on a mouse trap holding his tail down? Or is there any possible way I could lure him out? Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Joe

Do a search on escape or something similar. You can use traps and search any space - big and small. Good luck.

just took off bottom of dishwasher..nothing, but did notice a hole in the wall. This isnt too far from viv. i am affraid he is gone

Don't worry he'll be ok. :) All the time you hear great stories about snakes showing up out of nowhere. I lost my first snkae 2 time for a few days and he always showed up. Once he came out of the drain in the bathtub while I was painting the bathroom. Freaked me right out. If you never find him, we'll say that he waited in the wall until it was hot out again then moved to the forest.

Hope you find him, Good luck

Don't give up....

Keep looking! One of mine got out last week and after two days I found him curled up in a closet. I had already looked in this closet several times prior to finding him so even if you've already looked somewhere once be sure to check again. Also keep in mind that they're really good climbers so be sure to look in areas off the floor (cabinets, drawers, etc.) Chances are he's probably somewhere close. Toothpicks were also very helpful to me. If you line them up end to end across doorways you can tell if your snake has entered or exited the room. That is how I knew mine had been in the closet. (This was an idea from Kathy Love's book). Don't give up....chances are you'll find him! :)

That toothpick idea is a great one. How creative, leave it to kathy :)

I have a small waterfall on a table, and i put a couple small shallow dishes of water out so maybe he will come out,and i also placed 2 paper bags with live pinkies in them and i will go make a toothpick labriynth right now.

I like the toothpick idea...cleaner than the idea I heard of, which is a line of flour...

First off don't worry,if it is cold where you live the snake will stay inside :D I would check under dryer, fridge or anywhere warm first. If you don't find him/her you can always set a "trap" get a mouse cage kind with bars and place what ever foos the snake eats he will climb through the bars and will be to big to get back out.I had a red tail get out one time and get in my mouse cage :D I know people who snakes turned up months later :)

This is one thing I can testify to from experience!

I have had everything from hatchlings to 5 foot adults get lose and they have always showed up eventually... Usually on feeding day when I bring everyone out and the scent of mice is in the air!

I have also used the mouse cage idea and the mouse trap thing too-- usually with the hatchlings if you look in the cracks between your furniture and the walls they will be somewhere close.... I once found one coming out of the laundry basket -- so check your dirty laundry before washing!

the adults (and don't ask me how I couldn't see a 5 foot snake hiding somewhere) but I did finally find it hanging out in my sons bedroom -- which my son had earlier told me that the snake had been sleeping with him *I thought he was just dreaming* but apparently the snake really had been there.... he must have been curling up with him in his sleep to keep warm! *Go Figure*

I do have one lose right now -- he is an evil little thing! Wild as a buck!!! He has been lose for alonggggg time but every once in a while I will hear a glass rattle in the cupboard or find papers moved around on the desk....

He is still here somewhere --- Lurking and waiting to pop out when I least expect it!

Keep the faith!

Found him! guess where he was the whole time? Inside the cactus planter inside the aquarium. It is a rock-looking container which you can plant in, and the bottom is hollow around the section where you put soil, so he curled up in the hollow part. I have even taken it out and lifted it up to try to find him, but I didnt relize it was hollow like that. I got punked! :eek1:

Congrats on finding him!
I think this happens a lot lol, I think getting 'Punk'd' should also now be a term exclusively for snake-keepers, to use when a snake appears to be lost but was the viv the whole time!

You have probably allready figured this out but if you haven't. You need to get a lid for your tank. You should be able to pick one up for 10 to 12 dollars at your local pet store and the usually come with safety clips.

You would be very surprised how far your new snake can reach up the side of those walls even being glass.

Actually got another tank almost same size, but this one has a lid (clips were seperate). The problem with the other tank was that it had a curved front with no lid. I wanted to try to make one, but never got around to it.

I have a Corn not even a foot long and he will get up on his water dish and try and climb out,he can even reach the top of cage.I swear sometimes snakes are magicians :D I have had them get out of cages that I KNEW were escape proof. They do it just to show me they can.....LOL :D
