Hi

so i got my snake just over 3 weeks ago (it was about 10 weeks old) and handled it (stupidly) the day after i got it, it went crazy and bit the hell out of me, left it a few days and it did the same ratling its tale, hissing and biting (though i was quite nevous and hesitant after the first time, i now know that doesnt help),.
so iv left the snake 3 weeks now ( i know its long, but i was really concerned that really stressed him so soon after getting him) he now comes out more or less every night, eats well and when hes sniffing at the vent and i put my finger on it he dont try to bite, or even seem so botherd, though when i go to change his water he does shoot off streight away.

Iv heard that its a good idea to open a window on the top of the faunarium and when he starts coming out take him, what you think?

Also i cant help noticing his size, when i got him (as i sed just over 3 weeks ago) he was living in a small delhi tub at the pet shop, when i got him home put him in a faunarium and from the time i got him to now hes grown longer, but the main thing is hes about tripled in withe, is this normal? and hes about 1 1/2 foot at 12 weeks old?

As hes bit me every time iv ever touched him im obviously a bit nervous, i know it dont hurt, more the shock, but especially now hes gotten bigger im thinking so will of his teeth lol.

Any advice on next steps apreciated

I couldn't get over how long Gaia got in the 8 weeks I have had her. She is still a little agressive when I try to pick her up but I feel it's because she is still young and not used to be handled. And she is getting broader in the beam. Snakes grow faster the first few years of life.

I am trying to get her to learn that after I handle her she will get feed. She gets 3 pinkies once a week so I get the pinkies out and let them thaw. I put them in different spots in a critter carrier. I then wash my hands so she doesn't smell the mice on them. I get her out of her tank and play with her for several minutes; weigh and measure her after a shed; and then put her in the critter carrier so she can find the pinkies. Once she has eaten all the pinkies I put a cardboard tube in for her to hide in and I clean her tank. When I am finished with her tank I pick up the tube and make sure she doesn't slide or dart out and put her back in her tank. So far she is becoming less agressive.

Maybe he can't smell you when your finger is on the vent or maybe he knows you're on the outside and he's inside. :shrugs:

Just give him time and handle him gently. Sometimes it will take up to a year or more for a snake to get used to you. Remember, they are not tame but still wild snakes when we get them even though they have been captive bred. It takes time for them to settle into our human world.

yea when you first get a snake its good to let it be for a few weeks or atleast 2 feedings then you can hold them,,,thats how i do it atleast

but try and just put you hand in the tank and just let the snake get use to you dont try and pick him up let him just get relaxed with you it might take a week...
