Dimming Thermostats

Getting my viv this weekend so I have time to set it up before I get my corn. I have searched the threads but cannot find an answer to this question. If you are using a bulb to heat the viv, is a dimming thermostat the only thing you can use to regulate the temp of it. Oh and i saw one reply which talked about dimmers as a separate thing to use. They were much cheaper than a dimming thermostat but I don't understand how they regulate the temp of the bulb. Can anyone help? I haven't got huge amounts of spare cash and if there is something cheaper than a dimming thermostat that I can use without running the risk of cooking/freezing the poor corn i would really be grateful if you guys could let me know. :)

There is rea;;y no thermostat that is "good" for a bulb. Both types of themrostat will kill the life span of the bulb. Now if your using a household bulb thats fine as they are super cheap. You woudl probably be better with a dimmer as they supply a consistent amont of current to the bulb. The only down fall to that is if your room temps raise so will the temp in the cage and you will have to adjust the dimmer. So what do you do if your now home to take care of it? :flames: :wavey:
