Those links that Catherine gave you have some good information. I can add that after keeping several species of milk snakes through the years, that the absolute best beginner milk has got to be the Mexican, hands down. They are beautiful, and somewhat less offensive than some of the others. Although they are squirmy and musky as hatchlings, they tend to calm down more with time than some others from my experience. This is Cheech, he is now what I like to call "dog tame"

Nice little snakes.

I looked at a Sinaloan when I was looking for my first snake and I can vouch for the "squirmy and musky as hatchlings" part!

In the end decided on a corn. It didn't emit anything nasty when I handled it for the first time .... :)

Yeah Colin, Sinaloans and Nelsons are good choices too, but I'm partial to the Mexicans. First Milk I ever had was a Pueblan and he musked throughout his entire life! :puke01:

lol I've never been musked (yet). Our corn is older and has "tried" to poop on my husband but got it wrong and just pooped on the floor instead lol.

Would you say that tmilk snakes are more skiddish than corns? Are they more like, "Im cool by myself" snakes? I just thought they were beautiful, and after my husband getting a snake I thought I would like one too. Should I just stick with a corn? :D

They tend to be more skittish as hatchlings, but like a fine wine, they mellow with age. I say go for it!
