Do You Need a Heat Source?

I'm gonna be starting to add to my collection (getting a second snake next month). I was wondering, before you get to the point that you set up racks and have rolls of heat tape, doesn't it cost a ton to set up a viv for each snake? Lighting, vivs, etc. Right now I'm keeping my 4 month old corn in a plastic shoebox. She spends most of her time in her hide and is still healthy. Sommer is coming and it will be like scorching hot. Do I really need a heat source? The room temperature is usually between 72 and 76 degrees. Should I have to concern myself with getting a bunch of heating pads/lamps or are the snakes ok for now? Also, the current cage setup is: a plastic shoebox w/ holes lining the top, 1 to 1.5 inches of aspen, a hide (paper towel roll cut in half), and a water bowl. Is that good?

You wouldn't technically need a heat source if you temps were actually warm enough to allow proper digestion. Not sure that I personally would trust keeping my corns at 76 degrees for an extended period of time . . . being more than a couple days that is. I like to stay at 79 to 81 on the hot side.

In the best of all worlds you would provide a thermal cline so your snake could regulate its temperature as it chose. That is not always practical. If you chose not to provide a thermal cline I would keep the temperature in the low to mid 80s.
