Double clutching

I'm interested to know this too please. I have a female who will not be re-introduced to the male again this year because I'm not comfortable with her breeding at her current post-lay weight but I know that often enough they store sperm and later fertilize their 2nd clutch many months after the male has been around for daddy-duty. She's 240g with 2 small mice in her tummy (that's down from about 370 before the lay) so Although she's still above 'bare minimum' I still wont actively breed her again this year.

Do the female's internal registers know that she shouldn't go again, or do they sometimes double clutch even when physically they shouldn't?

It actually happens quite often. In my experience (which is limited), the ones that are going to double clutch do whether they should or not.

I can tell right now I am going to have to get better at telling the signs of ovulation. I wasnt even sure my girls were gravid until the were about to explode with eggs.
