Dumeril's Boa Husbandry

To everyone that helped with my plea to tell me what to fill my empty aquarium with, thanks.

I pretty much ignored you all and fell in love with a Dumeril's Boa. He's very laid back and does not mind being unhidden. I have seen him more since yesterday than my corns in the past month.

Interestingly, there is so much contradictory information on the internet about this species that I feel like I am on my own with figuring out best practices for husbandry. So right now he has a gradient 85 - 70 with hides on each side, a water dish big enough to soak in, and a climbing stick. He get's spritzed daily to keep humidiry up.

If you have any experience, I'd like to hear from you, and I'll factor that into the care I provide. Thanks.

I have two Dumeril's boas and they are great snakes. I took them outside yesterday for the first time. They seemed to like the new smells! LOL

Dumeril's boas are the best! My male thinks he is a BCI. He never refuses food. The female won't eat frozen. I wish I could get her to eat more often.

You cage sounds perfect. I'd love to see some pictures!

Here are mine!

to be honest i wouldn't think aquariums would be suitable to put snakes in because of the lack of ventilation and the heat loss
wooden vivariums or a rubbermaid box for small snakes would be the better choice(i live in the uk so it may be different for you as people have their own preferences,i am not looking for an arguement of any sort)
indyshark thats one nice dumerils boa you have there,im thinking of getting my own myself in future(once ive shortened my want list lol)

I would love to get a Dumeril's as soon as I move into a semi-permanent residence, but I was wondering what an ideal enclosure size would be? I've read that it should be 4ft by 2ft on the bottom by 18in tall, but if that's the bare minimum, I'd rather one up that to give the animal more comfort. Thanks for the info!

Btw, you have some gorgeous Dum's, Indy.. makes it all the harder to wait to get one.

19 days, but my boy just ate his first F/T mouse. I was really worried he was gonna refuse again. Fat happy snake sitting on the warm side digesting. Did I mention what a beautiful pattern he has, and his temperament is so calm. Got a pic coming soon of my granddaughter holding him.
