Easter Eggs!

Jay@PJCReptiles

"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone,
A little while ago we inherited a few snakes and two of them came with a clutch of eggs each. The older gentleman we got them from could not tell us who the father of the clutches were because he has a tendency to co-hab his animals (that is a topic for a completely different thread and that is not what this thread is intended for). While one of the females first clutch is starting to pip she drops me a second clutch of what look to be 9 viable eggs. I have seen "snow flakes" and "windows" on clutches before but this is really extreme. While they are not the typical white coloration it helps to see that there is veins and an embryo in each one. We put them in the incubator to see if we can bring them to term. Who knows what will pop up if anything. I guess time will tell. What do you think will happen to them? Is there a possibility that they could rupture as they plump up when it comes close to pip? Have any other breeders had the reduction of the outer shell be this drastic in a clutch? If so, what was your outcome? Anyway, I have never come across this oddity and thought I would share. They are kinda pretty. Easter Eggs!

Jay

those are crazy. if they continue to develop it would be cool to get a progression on them. wonder if you'll be able to see the babies as they grow!

I have some snowflaked eggs too! They are hatching right now :)

These are from a Hybrid (White Oak Rat Snake x Tangerine x Snow) to a Tangerine (Mexican Corn Snake x Amel Corn Snake)

Four eggs have pipped now, all are super bright in color - i'm curious what's in the dark egg, tho. :)

WOW! Cool thread. I have never seen eggs like that before. Good luck with them and let us know how they come along.

And congrats to Mojave Reptiles for your pippies from the snowflake eggs! Awesome!

Thanks! They were startling to find when she laid them :) but they incubated just fine, and as you can see, they are hatching :) we did lose the one that has the yellow around the edge... it started to mold, and was no good :(. However, the rest are still shy, heads just poking out, but not ready to come out yet :)

Jay, what would really be upsetting is if these eggs do not make it full term, reason being, every single one of them is fertile.

Please keep us updated on this one, it will educate all of us.

The teanslucent eggs are wicked Jay!!
I hope they hold up if the egg swells a bit!!
I'm excited to see what happens..hoping for the best!............
hahaha Easter Eggs.. they are really pretty looking!!
:crazy02:
take care,

~~'Manda

That's really incredible! and beautifull too :)
could the mother have had a shortage of calcium during egg development? or is it just a little mistake in calcification of the eggs?

Of my 7 snowflaked eggs, one went bad during incubating, another was DIE - and very strange looking, but I did get 5 gorgeous tangerine-like corn snakes :)

Based on my results, I'm sure your snowflaked eggs will be fine!
