From what I have seen alot of people including myself use aspen. Easy to spot clean and cheap. Also mine loves to burrow under aspen.

If you use carpet, you need two. You switch them back and forth. One in the cage, one clean and waiting. Aspen absorbs any odor pretty well. They are also burrowing animals by nature. They love digging and tunneling. That is why most of us use Aspen.

Ya i was gonna put the caroet on the bottom the make a deep aspen area on the cool side. So he has easy access to the heat and can still burrow too

For a short while i used this with my creamsicle and she didnt seem to care for it as much as she likes the eco-earth she has now. She couldnt borrow with it and she loves to borrow from one side of her viv to the other.

But i did use this in my iguanas cage and it was easy to clean and wasnt overly smelly or anything along those lines.

Some people keep their corns on paper towels so i think it comes down to personal choice.

Our viv will be due for a complete cleaning in a week or so. I feel bad messing up all of his tunnels. Lol. He has his own little highway system under the substrate.

I usually put a piece over the heat mat and then put aspen on top of it so the snake won't get burned. Harder to clean but it works for me.

My first snakes came with the carpet and I used it for awhile then got rid of it. Snakes love aspen (even the cheaper chips vs. shreds) and it's easier to change aspen and wipe glass than wash a redundant carpet.

I use a mat for my temporary snake cages. I used to use them under the substrate before got my thermostats.
