I just checked on my ghost female and she is currently in the process of laying eggs. At 7am, she had laid one already and was in the process of pushing the second one out.

I've never seen an egg laid before (aside from on videos on this forum), so that was neat to witness.

Last year, I found all of my eggs in a clump, already adheared to one another. This year I hope to be able to separate them. Though I have no idea when she'll be done laying them, and I need to be somewhere at 10am, so I'll probably have to wait until after I get back to take them from her.

No pictures yet, but I will post some when she is finished.

If anyone is curious, I'm expecting all Ghosts Het Amel from this clutch, but I could be surprized with some Anerys, Snows, or Hypo Snows too (She is poss Het Amel, and the dad is supposed to be a Hypo Snow, but the "Hypo" part is not yet proven).
 
Well, I just checked them, she laid 8 slugs :cry: , but on the upside, I did at least get 9 good eggs. :bowdown: *Prays: Please let these stay good and all of them hatch out healthy babies.*

Now is it most likely the male's fault for having so many slugs?

Well, congratulations on the 9 good ones.

Although it could be the males fault there are many reasons why eggs don't get fertilized, a couple of which are the male could have low fertitility, the follicles could have had something wrong that didn't allow fertilization, you could have bred her just a bit late and some were past time for fertilizing. There could be many reasons in nature that this happens and it is not always the "fault" of either parent and next year could be totally different results.

Thanks. I am still happy about the 9 of them.

They bred a couple times, but the last time they bred was about 2 weeks before she ovulated, so I guess some of the sperm could have gone bad by the time it was needed.

I'm planning on breeding her to another male next year (due to another project I want to start, not this fertility problem), so it'll be at least 2007 before these two get paired up again to see if they have better results.
 
More eggs!

I just got some more eggs yesterday, this time from my bloodred.

She laid 16 large eggs, not a slug in the bunch. I'm so happy. This clutch was the one was most anticipated for this season. I love bloodreds and can't wait to see what variety pops out... if they'll be like mom, dad or somewhere in between. I hope they are more like dad as he's a looker, while mom... well, lets just say she has a good personality.

She didn't use her nest box though, but I caught her in the process of laying the last 3 eggs, so they should be okay:
