The very very best thing that you can do is to get Kathy Love's cornsnake manual and read up on it also go to a reputable breeder who will provide you with everything you need to know. There is one in Newcastle the address is www.ukreptiles.co.uk so that is pretty near to you. Not sure if there is one in Sunderland. There is also one in Darlington Co durham www.coasttocoast.co.uk The basic thing's you will need are heater, tank, hide's, water bowl, substrate (paper towels) while they are young and food. In the Uk it is illegal to feed live food.
 
I agree with everything Lynn has said but I would also add that this site is a very useful "tool". Regular visits and browsing through old questions will answer most if not all your questions. Good luck with your corn when you get it. You will not regret it.
