hey, i have like many other people on this site, have gotten fed up with buying mice over priced, or whatever, from pet stores. so i am wondering what i will need to start breeding my own mice.
ill probably start with 1 male and 2 females, will i need 2 cages to sepeate the female from the male when its prego? because ive read another thread and the male was eating the babies. and stuff like that. temperatures.

Also

i have a male corn about 20" to 21" and i was wondering how many mice to feed him, i looked at the munson plan chart for feeding
http://cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50106
and i dont know how i will possibly weigh my snake to tell how to use it. im feeding him 2 pinkies a week now.
should i be moving onto small fuzzies??? hes about 6 months old now.

First there are many threads on raising mice if you do a search. Second if you're only feeding one snake invest in a scale instead of raising mice. With only one snake you will actually pay more per mouse as feeder, then if you buy.

I think it can be done cheaply enough even for one snake.

Find 1 or 2 cheap used shoebox sized lab tubs, and a source of cheap quality lab block, like Harlan or Mazuri. Buy it in bulk and freeze most of it and it will last over a year.

I got the tubs with wire tops and water bottles for $5 per set at my local reptile show. $13-$15 there will buy 33 lbs of Harlan lab block. For bedding, wood stove pellets from Menards $4 for 40 lbs. Or get a big bale of aspen or if you want to go really cheap pine shavings. Any feeders bought at a store are undoubtedly being housed on pine shavings anyway.

I have recently got 2 corns one of which came with 4 mice 1;4 which at the moment are breeding very nicely and giving me a nice steady flow of mice and its easier to just go and grab one whenever the snakes are hungry rather than having to go and buy one.
