I know we are only sposed to talk about corns but i need some urgent advice for a freind on his burmese. I seen her for the first time today and he is not taking care of her right at all. It appears one of her eye caps didn't come off on her last shed about one month ago. ITs all dry and i know she probably can't see out of, she let me touch her eyebut i didn't know what to do for her. I told him to take her to a vet. Is there any thing they can do or that i can do for them? Will it come off on her next shed or is it killing her eyeball and going to cause infection? Should we soak her? I was very upset to this snake this way, they don't hold her because they are scared, they need to get rid of her but refuse so all i can do is try to help. She is a beutiful snake and very sweet. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance.

Actually I thought I was having the same problem last week with my python, but she/he (now we think he's she lol) has since shed and the eyes have cleared up... BUT the head didn't shed in one piece so I don't know how to tell what a retained eyecap LOOKS like. Now on removal, I think I've heard about every removal trick out there. lol

The best one that I can think of (for TOUGH removal), is to take a SMALL amount of olive oil and gently brush it over the cap. Repeat again in about 30 minutes (keep the snake warm in either a humid hide or a warm damp pillowcase) then using a qtip (oil it lightly), gently slide the eyecap off.

I really have no other suggestions as I've never had to do this mysef, but of all the ones I was told, that's the one that sounds the most gentle and effective.

Soaking the snake might be easier (than just poking it in the eye) but it sounds much more stessful to me (as does tape).

And while we're on this topic, does anyone have a picture of what a retained eyecap LOOKS like? Or how to tell if there's actually one there (he.../she shed, but I can't tell!)
