fao of people who live uin the uk

Sorry, I'm on the South Coast, so can't advise on a good shop near you.

You'll be feeding your Corn defrosted mice, so handling them shouldn't be a problem. You can use tweezers if you really don't like the feeling of them.

If you're forced to feed live mice (i.e. your Corn refuses everything else) and you're worried about being bitten, then you could always wear gloves.

thanks to both

Just spotted this one that might be in the right area:

The Reptile Room
32 Anchorsholme Lane East
Cleveleys
Lanc's
FY5 3NW

Opens at 10am till 6pm on the Saturday (might be shorter hours Mon-Fri - guess you need to check). 110 new vivarium displays.

It's holding a special open day on 7th October. I've never heard of it, but it has a some respected reptile keepers in attendance that day and they wouldn't associate themselves with anything dodgy.

Just to add, some snakes can go off their feeding, and live mice can have to be used to get them eating again. I'm not trying to put you off, but it's something to bear in mind.

im not sure but i think if you can prove it wont eat frozen you can feed it live, read it sumwer on this website
:shrugs:

Live feeding per se is not illegal in the UK. However, the issue has never been taken to court so there's no legal precedent.

Theoretically, I think the legal considerations are around causing suffering.

With a snake that refuses to eat anything but live, you can make a very good case that it would suffer (and starve to death) if denied live food.

However, in a court, I'm sure the potential fear/suffering of the mouse would be taken into consideration.

As I say - all theoretical at this time.

how i understand it is that you are allowed to feed live in the event that your animal is about to die and live is the only thing that will keep in alive.

(Hi Nige!)

Agreed. There's no explicit law in the UK that states that it is illegal to feed one live animal to another.

If the AR numpties ever decided to take it to court, they could make a case by using the argument of suffering on the part of the mouse versus the risk of death to the snake. But as they never have (suspect we all know why, i.e. they'd lose), this has yet to be actually tested in law.

So no, it's not illegal in the UK, but neither is there a legal precedent to quote either. This leaves it as an apparent grey area, as far as ARs are concerned.

I suspect that the forthcoming Animal Welfare Bill might give us more issues to think about.

hiya lol..
anytime i have ever had to do it i have always watched. you know within 10 seconds usually if the snake is going to take the mouse.
so all this crap about snake getting injured really is that lol, just crap.
the only way they have a chance of getting hurt is when the owner leaves the snake and mouse alone and goes off... thats not how i do it myself.
