Feeding Corn Snake

Hey, I just got a month old corn snake a few days ago. This is the first snake ive had and the first time im feeding it. I read from a lot of places that you should feed it in a seperate containter so it doesnt eat substrate and doesnt associate his normal cage with eating. I was just wondering when i put him in a different cage (a medium sized plastic tuperware thing) and he eats, how do i get him back in his normal cage? the eating cage wont have any heat source, so he should go back into the normal cage with the heat source because its needed for digestion, right? and i heard if you handle the snake right after it eats, it may throw it back up. So i was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions onto how to transfer my snake back into his normal cage after eating. Thanks alot in advance
 
Hi Stevecat! :wavey: Nice that you found this site so soon after getting your corn. Lots of great people and information here.

After your snake has eaten, give him about twenty minutes or so and then just gently place him back in his viv. If he's used to being handled, that small amount of holding won't hurt him. I've read of others placing the feeding tub INSIDE the viv (after eating) and letting the snake go out on his own. Either way should be fine, just be gentle.
 
I feed my snakes in Tupperware containers, and when they are finished with their supper i usually "pour" them back into their vivs very gently. It seems like the least stressful way to do it IMO.
 
We use paper towel for substrate on all our new snakes.... That way we can feed in the viv and no worries about handling...... We find this the best way to do things......
 
I've never had a problem with picking up my snakes gently from their feeding containers and boxes (of course with the exception of a boa or two). What I recommend is make sure that the food item is past the point where its being pushed town the throat via the muscles and whatnot. Once your snake is moving somewhat normally (should take 15-20 minutes usually), just pick him up gently. I support mine from just before where the food item is and around 3/4s of the body, this way the snake is fully supported and you arent putting pressure on the meal.
