Feeding live food

Metal_luke666

Snake Charmer 666
(Its been a while since I was here. Think I should start posting again.)

I have a Royal Python who has always been a fussy eater and hasn't really ate anything for about 9 months.
This didn't bother me too much as I know they can go a long time without food.

Recently Kurt, My Royal, was losing weight rapidly and despite my best efforts would not eat a thawed mouse.
In the end I resorted to live mice, still not expecting a response..... I couldn't have been more wrong.

He had grabbed and coiled around the mouse after less than 30 seconds.
I am glad he is finally eating and I doubt I will ever get him onto frozen thawed food.

Does anyone know a good place to buy live mice/rats from?
I don't know anywhere local except for pet shops and I can't find anywhere online.

(I have pictures of Kurt's first meal if its appropriate to post. Thought maybe not becuase it was a live mouse.)

You will want to buy the mice/rats local, shipping on live rodents is insanely expensive. You still might be able to get Kurt on F/T, see if he will take stunned, then prekilled, then a F/T that was killed the day before . Make sure the F/T is completly dry, some snakes don't like soggy food, then use a hair drier to get the face really hot. I did that with my Royal and now she will take anything offered.

OK, I will continue to buy them local for now.

Whenever I offer thawed mice he flinches and slithers off.
He really hates them, I tried heating them with hairdryer, he just hates thawed.

Both my other snakes eat thawed, no problem.

But thanks for the advice, I will try to feed stunned then work my way to thawed. :D
