This is helpful when the snake is almost ready to move up to the next prey-size, but not quite. It's a good way to 'introduce' them to the bigger meal. Or when your snake is big enough for fuzzies, you can feed more than one pink if you have a few pinks left to get rid of.
I agree with Marty. I have feed 2 and 3 pinkies at a time to use up my supply and the same holds true for fuzzies and hoppers and small mice. But basically two pinkies equals one fuzzie and so on and so on.
I did it quite a bit with my two when they were younger. They still seemed to small for the next size, but they didn't have much of a lump after eating and were definitely looking for more.
