Ok so my gf just fed her snake (fable) for the first time he was very hungry it took him a minute to strike but once he had it, it was on!!!

So I got him in his other cage for eating and he finally went into his hide for the first time ever!!!!!

My question is I know he has to be their for 24 hours I forgot to put bedding stuff in it does he need it in their?

Im guessing yes so if he does what do I do?

Are you saying he should be in the feed bin for 24 hours? I have never had to leave mine more than 1 hour. . . can you clarify please?

Ummm ok I may be wrong I read that once he has ate he isnt supposed to be touched or handled for 24 hours I put him in a different cage to eat and we have only had him for about a week.

I was under the assumption that he was supposed to stay in the feeding cage?

Can you clear this up for me please?

Thanks

I usually feed mine in a very small container, just big enough for dining. I take the lid off the container & put the container, with the snake, back in the viv & let them move themselves back into their usual viv at their own speed. That way I'm not handling the snake & risking triggering a regurg. It's probably overly cautious for Humphrey & Icabod (nothing seems to bother them!) but that's how I've been doing it. I hope that explanation helps.

i put the water bowl in there too cause i thought that he had to stay in there for 24 hours

so is it ok to take the water bowl out and put him back in his usual tank using the method you said?

I do what wstphal does

1st- I put the thawed pinkey (mouse) in the feed container
2nd- I pick up the snake and put it in the feed container, secure the lid
3rd- I watch to see how the feeding is going
4th- I wait till they get it down into their bellies (20min max after swallowing)
5th- I take the lid of the feeding container and let the snake slither out of it back into its viv.

Snakes need the heat and comfort of their home to digest their meal. Leaving it out of the viv is probably causing the little guy stress. We take them out of their normal viv for feeding so there is no chance for them to ingest the substrate. But once the mouse is swallowed and settled in the snakes tummy put it back in it's viv. I normally wait a few days to handle mine after feeding, and I still use caution cause I don't like getting pooped on lol. Does this help?

Hey guys ok so got him back in his regular cage at first he looked upset but now he is fine, he went back into his hide and is just chillin overall I think it was a fairly smooth transition for a first timer =P

Anyway im happy he is using his hide LOL makes me sooo happy

they don't need the comfort of their home to digest their meal they need heat remember thats why u have ut heat pad. If you have a the proper heat in the separate container along with water and at least 1 hide in the hot side of the wtv ur using then u can leave the snake there for 24hrs.

thats what I thought but eh no biggy.

on a side note whats the best bedding stuff for him?

O another side note how do I know if its a him or her LOL

Okay Urban they might not NEED to be in their normal viv, but they have to like the substrate and hides in their viv better than being left in the empty feeding container!

not necessarily if you are providing them with all the basics they'll be fine; however I also agree with you its better way better to put them back in their viv after feeding.

I feed mine in a seperate feeding tub then when they are done I tip the tub to slide them back into their home setup. I never actually touch the snake during the transfer back. Then you don't handle for 48 hours to try to avoid regurges. He's get thirsty and cold in the feeding bin.
