Female Kisatchie

This girl will be big enough to breed next year but unfortunately, her mate will probably be still too small. :(

I love her colors, so differents than corns. :)

Stunning Kisatchie, Caroline. :) I really like Kisatchies, and she's a beauty. How big is the male? If he's over 100g, why not give him a shot?

Yea as Dean says if hes cleared the 100 gram mark then try him, unless the female is MASSIVE which I had a problem with last year with a 500 gram female and 125 gram male :grin01: no eating occured was just funny to watch this male trying to hold her down.
Hope the breeding all goes well, she sure looks a lovely girl.
:wavey:

He is way under that. He had a small start. He is now at about 30gr. :( I hope he will decide to get some weight rapidly.

Here he is:

Well, I guess he's out. :grin01: But he is a handsome little lad. :)

those are cool looking dark snakes..............and i don't want to start anything, but could these have not been posted in the photo gallery? :shrugs: maybe i am stupid, but i thought that a kisatchie was a corn?

anyway, very nice couple and please keep us updated. :)

Here is the description of them on Don Soderberg's site:

Kisatchie
Pantherophis slowinskii
These have recently been described as a new species. They were formerly considered intergrades between corns and Emory's (great plains) rat snakes. They are still popularly considered to be a corn snake. Kisatchies are primarily found in Louisiana and extreme E. Texas. These are one of the darkest examples of the corn snake types. Most of ours exhibit "metallic" colors.

This is why I posted it here. ;)

i might be wrong, but with your (SMR'S) description and others that i have red i would consider them a corn. anyway, like mentioned before, i was not trying to get anything started. it was more of a learning experience and schooling for me to know in the future. wherever you post them, they are still nice, and very dark.
