Field Guide Recommendations...

Snow! Snow!
On the heels of that great 'what's in your library' thread by mbdorfer, I would like to ask some advice.
This summer my best friend and I will be driving from Ontario to the Grand Canyon. We will head through Flint, Chicago, Oklahoma City etc and come home by heading north first into Colorado and then East. 7000 km in 10 days...give or take.
What I would love from the group is a recommendation for some great field guides that will help us out in these areas. We will be camping all the way and hope to see some great wildlife...
Thanks for the help.

Thanks, I'm glad you thought that was a good thread.
The mentioned Audubon Society guide covers all reptiles and amphibians of North America, It is loaded with color photos and has a very extensive listing of each subspecies. I believe there is another guide written by the late Roger Conant that is quite good also.
The Audubon guide is very easy to carry with you it is thick but sized for easy field carrying. Hope this helps

I would recommend the Peterson Field Guide for Western Reptiles and Amphibians. It's the one written by Rodger Conant. Don't leave home without it.
