My daughter and I went to the expo and we brought home a handsome little Pewter from MoJo Herps - (thank you for the little guy!) My daughter named Zdano Chara (her favorite Bruins player)
Now I know what people are talking about, he is so cute and we can't disturb him til he is all settled in, frustrating!
Quick question, he made the rounds of his new home and has settled into one of the log hides is there, in your experience, how long until they feel secure enough to venture out and about? Like a nervous nelly I just want to keep checking on him and make sure he is good.

They are all individuals. It might be just a day or two, it might be longer. The rare few will stay more shy.

Often they are back out in just a day or two. Still give them about a week until you start to handle or feed. Remember, if all goes well you could have 15 to 20 years together. In that context a week is not so long to wait.

When I got my corn (she was already over a year old, barely handled previously) it took her about a week to come out and about at night, and only when no one moved a muscle and it was pitch black. It took about 6 weeks for her to come out in the evening with minimal light, in front of us.

That being said, my hatchling ball python came out the second night in front of us :p each snake is different! Try not to worry if your little one hides for quite awhile. And resist the urge to check on him!

Congrats :) we'd love to see photos also!

Well, I got our coral ghost new girl on Saturday afternoon, and she was out last night, all over the place looking around, trying to escape! We took her out and let her get to know us a little.

I think each snake is different, and you just have to go at their pace.

Now, our baby tessera was a little more shy, so we left her alone the full week before handling her when we brought her home.

Our first snake, (Also a PEWTER!) was over a year old when we got him, and really really tame, we left him alone as well, but he was out exploring the day after we got him too. :)

It just depends on how they react to you and how shy they seem. My new one is not shy at all...

I just got one, too. The wait to handle her is terrible! It's only been a day, too!

Melody likes to burrow, and she hasn't been out since last night. That when she did her exploring. Just give it a week, and your snake should be comfortable with you. Just give it time to feel safe in its home.

Sorry still no good picture opportunity! He did come out and was peeking around his log and exploring around the back where I put all the leaves and vine, then he slipped into the other log.
Any good advice on getting pics with out the glare of the glass?

Chara Settling in

Woohoo, Chara has been out and about exploring the past few days and I was able to get a couple of pictures, sorry they are not great, but he is quick!
I also got what I hope is an accurate weight, again whole lot of squirming so not sure the most solid reading was 43g. He also had his first small meal with us and he gobbled it down pretty fast.

One More Picture

One more picture of him, he seems interested in the goings on and peeks out of the hides when you come in the room- it is really cute!

Any pictures of Petri? Is he light or darker? I am excited to see what Chara looks like as he gets bigger, there are not a lot of pictures showing the baby then progressing to older snakes in Pewter so it is hard to tell for me since I am new to these guys.

Here are some pics. He is VERY light, maybe a hypo.. (link and pic)

I believe he was hatched in June or July. Thanks for the compliment- my daughter saw him and said I think he is perfect for our family :)
