First Escapee

Spitfire

Snakeless
I can't believe it. When I thought nothing could go wrong, my snake escapes. Yes, the beloved Spitfire is now somewhere in the house. I've been searching frantically for the past two weeks. Worrying about the snake eating shouldn't really a problem, should it? I've read about traps that are inverted 2-liter bottle with pinks inside. Could you use an anole for bait instead of a mouse? Any other suggestions from anyone on catching it? I read that they don't go more than a few feet so I've been checking my room and the hallway. Is it possible that it got into a vent or something? I don't really think it could've, it was only a hatchling. Well, actualy almost half a year but I couldn't consider it a yearling.

Lay out plastic? That's really time consuming and I'd have to be home all day. And I'm actually inside the house, and awake, for only like six or seven hours a day, and sometimes less. I needed ideas for like traps and stuff. Thanks anyway for the suggestion though.

Sorry to hear about your escapee. I lost mine for about 9 days, read everything I could on lost snakes, turned the house upside down.. tried all of the method's of 'trapping' (except duct tape.. yikes!). Even leaving heat and food out did nothing. When I did find her again, she was inside an unused speaker on the floor (in the same room as the heat and food, so those tricks were a big help as it turns out  ), right beside her tank stand. Why I never thought to check in there, I don't know, but she could have gone easily unseen for much longer. I was just lucky that she moved her head near one of the gaps when I had my eyes there. One reason she may not have ventured out is because she was in shed at the time.

I'd recommend you search as much as you can for info on escaped snakes, it would be hard to put all into one post :) Don't give up hope on seeing your snake again, they really can hide in the strangest and hardest to get at places. The older the snake is, the more likely it can survive loose for an extended period. Leave water out as dehydration seems to be more severe than lack of food. It's quite likely it is still in the room where it escaped.

From what I've read on this site, most are found relatively close to their vivs and sometimes in very obvious spots. I think one was found inside the top holder for blinds in the window, and one had crawled into the little space under the viv. If you go on search here and type in lost snakes, I think you'll find lots of suggestions.

escapee

:crying: I took both my snakes to get sexed and we stoped at a pet store to show a friend my snakes, when we left in the car we noticed that phenix was missing. We went back to the store but nothin was there. 2 hours went by and I was looking franticly in the van but I saw nothin. I started to give up and when I took one last look I found her up under the drivers seat were the seat rolles back. If my wife ajusted her seat she would be dead. It took me an hour to get her out but thank goodness I found her. That day I found out that phenix was a female and cornelius was a male.

Your snake will probably be in a very small cramped area in the room she escaped from. Look really hard you will find her.

Really great news! I found the snake today! Actually, my mom who really doesn't like snakes, found it for me. I missed the snake so much. What a great birthday present, huh? (My b-day is Tuesday)
