Uhhhm, Pineapples.
So, im going to get a baby okeetee corn snake for christmas, but i was just wondering can i buy all the stuff and the snake at the same time, or should i buy the stuff, then wait a couple days, then get the snake??

keeping a pet snake is a bit harder than some people may think.

It would be a good idea to get a cage, make sure it's clean. Hook up the heat mat and thermostat. Lay in the substrate, place a couple hide boxes in place, fresh water and a secure lid, and then monitor the temperatures for about 2 or 3 days. You'll probably have to move things around a little bit, and maybe adjust the thermostat a time or two.

You want to make sure everything is "Right" before placing the snake in there. Otherwise he will be uncomfortable and it could even be harmful to his health.

You can get everything with the snake but that doesn't mean you should. Much better to have everything ready and temps stable before bringing your snake home.

Just a reminder, when you bring you snake home give it 4 to 7 days before handling or feeding. Your snake needs time to adjust to its new surroundings.

P.S. I forgot the most important thing. Congrats on your new snake and welcome to the forum :wavey:

While it's not "necessary" to set it up before hand, it would be nice to get it ready and have the heat up to the right temperature for it before putting it in there.

As for handling, I've never had an issue handling the snake before a week. I also feed before that. You'll just have to read the snake. If he squirms and flees and rattles about every time you get near, hold off on handling and feeding for a few more days. If he sits content and doesn't strike or flee, go ahead and feed him or handle him (not both, of course) then a few days later you can do the other.
