Fish flying across the Pacific

I ordered some beautiful goldfish last week from a breeder in HI. They are due to arrive tomorrow. A 300 gallon stock tank will be their new home.

Actually, that source is very reasonable for the quality, and the money was mine to spend, but even so, BF was appalled at the price. He actually asked me to refrain from telling anyone we know what I paid for...Goldfish!! Since these fish came out to be about the same price as the corn snake cost, I tried to explain that it was more like a two-'fer. No go.

So, anyway, I'm all stressed out, hoping they will arrive safely.

Don't stress; they will be fine!

I believe I know the Hawaiian breeder you're talking about. I've never bought from them, but their pricing is reasonable, and the selection is incredible.

I usually buy my koi and goldfish from a local pet store that my ex-husband used to own. They are just as pricey as the mail-order facility, as they have to factor in air shipment, and a large enough profit margin to make it worth their while.

As with most hobbies, we do it for the love of the animals, whereas others see it as a waste of good money. To each his own.

Raingarden Goldfish.
They are just beautiful.
Saving for a couple more.

Fed them their first meal this morning. I'm looking forward to the point where they start to recognise me, and swim over for food. I've got two red commons in a smaller stock tank in the green house. Feed time is always fun.

Like snakes, most people have no clue how interactive fish can be.
