fish tank gravel

can fish tank gravel be an acceptable substrate?
Yes, for fish...:grin01: For your cornsnake, you'll want to use something like aspen, the choice of most, or newspaper. These more closely mimick the type of environment they would choose in the wild.

If you use newspaper, most prefer the Sports and Business sections as opposed to Arts and Leisure...:sidestep:

Unless you have a snake which doubles up as an Ostrich, I would not advise it, proper substrate is needed.
You can find some threads with discussions about who prefers which ones by using the search function at the top right of all Forum pages.

I am sorry Danny but I do not agree, the NASDAQ section is the preferred one! :grin01:

At my house, the snakes will only tolerate the local alternative paper. ;)

It can be abrasive on their poor little tummy scutes so it's best to avoid sand and gravel of all sorts.

ok!!!

ok now all jokes aside, you'll have to consider what if your snake swallowed a piece of the gravel, there is no way he could digest it, so a possible regurge so as a result could cause possible health re issues. so in the interests of your snakes health.... DON'T DO IT

If it were gravel, I'd be more concerned with an impaction more than a regurge.

But yeah, bottom line: NO.

whats an impaction :shrugs: :shrugs: ...... i couldn't find it in the dictionary
A blockage in the ailmentary canal, i.e., from the mouth to the vent.....most likely along the intestinal tract.

In other words, instead of horking it up, it stays in, and blocks any real food trying to make its way through.

jazz
