alright so i've been feeding my juvenile corns live pinkies and its been 4 days since i've fed him last. none of the pet shops have any pinkies for me to buy, this is weak. so i'm thinking of buying frozen pinkies in bulk, anyone know of a good place. do i just take out what i need in frozen pinkies in the morning and leave them out until i get home at night? what do you do? :confused:

i use rodentpro.com and like them alot. there are a few other good ones from what i've heard but don't want to switch. :) i wouldn't leave them out all day. (they get nasty if you do) only takes about 5-10 minutes in a baggie in warm water to thaw them. good luck, jim
 
I've heard good things about rodentpro.com and also cajunmice.com or something similar to that. I just fill a cup with hot water and drop 2 pinkies in. After ten minutes I fish them out with chopsticks and sort of touch them to a paper towel so excess water is wiped off. Then I play the "this is a live mouse" game with Xavier and he eats and everyone's happy. :) (Oh, he has his own special cup and chopsticks that I use for mice..it's not like I randomly choose a cup out of the cabinet and chopsticks out of the drawer and then put them back later..lol)
Some people do leave mice out at room temp to defrost but I prefer the hot water method. My mom would have a heart attack if she saw mice laying out on the kitchen table.
The plastic bag idea that JIm and a lot of other people use is good..I don't do that though. Saves plastic but also it works fine for me when I just put the pinkie into the water.
 
rodentpro.com is good, clean mice. I use the hot water and plastic ziplock bag method for defrosting. Works great for all size mice.

Hi all. in the past I fed my 9 mos old live fuzzies. But I see many posts on this site that prefer feeding frozen/thaw.

I switched, and have been feeding frozen/thaw for about 4 weeks. Our snake has made the transition without missing a beat (or should I say feed).

It's great to know that our snake will never be harmed by live prey fighting for its life.

Our method is to put frozen fuzzy in a zip-locked bag and then submerse the bag in hot water. We have been leaving bag in water for 30 minutes to be sure that the fuzzy is completely thawed.

My questions are: Is it possible to leave the bag in hot water too long? And, can it be harmful to the snake if the thawed prey is too warm?

We've had our snake for about 3 months, and are really beginning to love this animal. Snakes are GREAT.

I use bigcheeserodents.com and have never had a problem whatsoever. Further, at $100 for five hundred fat pinkies shipped, the deal they are currently running is terrific!

if that is a "sale" price you might find rodentpro a bit cheaper. their non-sale price for 500 pinks is $100.39 shipped. (85+15.39 shipping) they also quite often run specials on sizes they have too much of. for me the price isn't a determining factor and this wouldn't get me to switch, so if you have good luck with one place i'd say stay with them. good luck gekko... :) ---jim
 
Received my order of 100 hoppers from Rodentpro today. Both corns took them without hesitation. I'm now feeding F/T instead of fresh killed. I think I'm saving about 66 percent over the cost of live including shipping. Not a bad deal at all.

from what I see on the net, rodentpro.com has the best prices. That and you can actually order online saves so much time! When I get mine I break then down into smaller bags. 3 pinks and 1 fuzzy per bag. That way I thaw only what I need to use and I vacuum seal all the rest to cut down on freezer burn.
 
I heat a mug of water in the microwave for 30sec. then put the frozen in the mug of water for at least 10 - 15 min. this is my method for thawing. it work for me and it is easy. make sure it is thawed first be for you feed it to your snake.
