He downed it pretty well all the same, and has been chilling healthily since he was fed. It could have been a bit too big, but in my area the only other option are pinkies or fuzzies, and I don't want to have to feed him 4 or me pinkies.

I need to look into online feeder suppliers.

yeah, I had that same problem until I ordered online, but online shipping is alot unless you make a large order, but I would recommend hoppers (next size after fuzzies), I have a ghost corn snake and he went straight from fuzzies to adults because ordering online seemed useless at the time, but he was way too big for fuzzies so adults were'nt too large of a food item.
Now I have quite a few snakes so I can order larger quantities online, and I'm glad because pet store prices became way too expensive.

He was on hoppers for quite some time, but I moved and the new area has a much more limited supply of feeders. Essentially, it's pinkies or those rats.

He enjoyed his meal, I'd never seem his react so violently to a feeder. Struck like a maniac.

I don't know... your snake looks a little on the "bigger" side. How long did it take for him to eat it? The rule being 1.5 x the biggest (girthiest?) area of the snake. You might be RIGHT at that point with this feeder - possibly just a tad over. Check how the bulge looks 24 hours after.

If your snake is healthy, I think he'll be fine.

BTW, I do love the way the black of the mouse shows through the white of the snake's body. Morbidly interesting! LOL.

Congrats on the beautiful snake!

How much does the snake and the rat weigh?

For adult corns maximum 10% of their body weight is a good size of food, which I'd give them approximately every 2 weeks. Younger snakes should be fed with that amount every week, and babies even more frequently.

For example my 645g female got her first rat (first from me anyway) yesterday. Previously I've fed her with two 30g mice, but now mice weren't available. The rat weighed 65g which just happens to be exactly 10% of the females weight. She swallowed the rat quite well and now she's in her cave digesting the food. I've decided to give her at least 2 weeks rest before feeding her again. And the reason why I had the courage to give her this rat was because the previous owner told me that she's given her a 80g rat once and it went down well. Although in my opinion 80g is too big for her.

So if the rat is approximately 10% of your corns weight and you don't feed him/her too often (the bigger the meal, the longer the rest) it should be OK.
