GLUB reptile water...

I was in a pet store last night picking up pinks and fuzzers and I saw GLUB, a specially treated water created for reptiles. They only had it in a half liter and it was about $4.00 and I pretty much concluded it was junk. I've been giving my snakes spring water straight out of a bottle that I bought specifically for them. For a while I used tap water, but it can't be very good for them, it's not good for me. Has anyone ever tried this GLUB stuff? Is it fine to just use spring water? Any suggestions?

Can't help you there sorry. Mine all just get water out of the tap. I have a Beta splendens that gets tap water that's stood in a bucket overnight for his water changes and he's exceded his life expectancy by more than 50% so our water can't be all that bad! Funny, I never thought about giving my snakes bottled water, I drink from the tap, my boyfriend drinks from the tap...the snakes drink from the tap.

Yes, but I'll bet your tap water isn't chlorinated and treated to the point that it smells like pool water. ;)

Our tap water here is junk. They add calcium (among other chemicals) to it for some unknown reason, so your water heaters and pipes get buildup in there and clog up and you have to replace them on a more frequent basis. It's nasty.

My parents went through 4 hot water heaters before finding a suitable softener. Not that that water is any better for drinking, with all of the sodium content.

At home, we drink bottled spring water and leave the tap for cleaning and cooking purposes.

As for the Glub, sounds cheap and worthless to me. I'd say spring water is very good for them, with the mineral content and no chemicals. I wouldn't worry about it and just keep using it.

My county just went to Chloramine which is not safe for reptiles or fish. I've always given my snakes and other pets for that matter, water out of my reverse osmosis unit that makes it 99% pure.

I've worked in a purified water store since 1998. $3 for 5 gallons (canadian).

I know what's in our tap water... Aside from the fact that drinking more than a cup of it will send me to the ER with cramps and bloating (among other things), you can't pay me to drink tap water.

And I live in Vancouver... the city that supposedly used to have one of the best tap waters in the world.

Heh.

Wow, people will buy water for $30 a gallon? I'm in the wrong business! :sidestep:

Yup, believe it or not, they used to sell oxygen for $1 a minute as well! ROFL

A very bright and forward thinking man called John Batman (not kidding BTW) about 180 years ago when Melbourne was being planned decided that a special water catchment area should be reserved for the future population to have a reliable and safe source.....as a result, Melbourne won an award a few years back (I think it was in the mid 90's) for the best city tap water in the world. It was the same year it won the 'most liveable city' too. There are some things I have to say I miss about Australia...but cornsnakes are illegal there so I guess I'll not be going back in a hurry!!! :sidestep:
