I might be GETTING snake!!! :)
My friend is letting me take care of his pet snake for a week to see if I can handle it. If I can, then I will get a cornsnake! =D!
I hope its not too hard. :)

That is great Joe! What kind of snake does your friend have? are there specific things that you are worried about when it comes to taking care of the snake?

Most everybody is nervous when they first get a snake but that will pass. I just got a new baby hognose and I am nervous with him because it has been a long time since I handled such a small snake.

You will do great!!!!! You have done your research!

I am really happy for you Joe!!! :crazy02:

My friends snake is a 3 year old boa. Its pretty big...
Im just worried about something going wrong... Like if the temp. gets too high and the snake gets burned, or if it gets too cold... If I drop the snake while handling it... But the thing im worried most about is the temp. I live in new york and it can get very cold here. Some winters it gets down to -5 - 10 degreeze! The usual temp in winter is around 32-50 but it does sometimes drop far, far, be low that. Summer its not cold its usually around 75-85. Im still a little confused about how to control the temp in the tank. Also im worried about the cost. My dad is willing to spend about 50 dollars and I have $120 saved for a snake. I wait either an okeetee, a normal, or what ever type of corn this is:

Don't worry about the extreme cold temps, I am sure that it never gets that cold in your home. Most people keep their homes around 72degrees, which is the cold end for a snake but isn't going to kill them.

IMOP what I started out with worked pretty good and that was a 10g aquarium, wire top, spot light and UT heater. You will need to get a bigger cage but this will do for a while and give you time to save up for a bigger cage or ask for one for Christmas/birthday. I have read that a lot of people on this site keep their snakes in the clear tubs that you can get at most department stores which would be inexpensive and easy to clean. This heater can be put inside the cage IntelliTemp Heat Mat I think I am going to get a couple of those myself. And you can just get an outside thermometer to hang on the hot side to monitor the heat. Put in a hide on each side, which for a baby could be empty tissue role, flower pot, etc and a water bowl and your done.

Everbody has started out right where you are. But you are a couple of steps ahead because of the research that you have already done.

Oh, and handling them just takes practice. If you are worried about dropping them, just handle them while you are sitting on the floor, bed, couch, etc.

True, its a lot hotter in my house then it is outside. Its normaly around 75 degreeze! :) thank god for heating lol. I still dont understand how to control the heat but ill probably figure it out on my own.

I still have a pretty long time before I can get the snake anyway. Im redoing my whole room. I through out everything. All my clothes, toys, furniture, ect. My dad is buying me all new stuff! Yay me! lol. Its going to take about umm 4 more weeks so yea, im not getting the snake for a while which im a little sad about
