Grendl - '10 Mexican Black Kingsnake

Well, I joined the MBK Club a couple months back. He's taken some getting used to and we've learned to keep paper towel handy to clean up as he almost always musks when we take him out. He's usually better once out for a bit though. And he's very aggressive with his food, chomping down and flailing it about for quite some time before swallowing it. He's a feisty little brat and is rather difficult to photograph but here's a couple shots:

Cute li'l fella! They're such beautiful snakes, but I ended up rehoming mine because I couldn't deal with the constant musking. Bites from the kinds of snakes I keep? No problem. Musking, though? It makes me gag.

Beautiful Boy, we got a '10 female in Sept. and we love her, got a name picked out for a male if we decide to get her a BF someday lol

He's so shiny and beautiful...and he matches your nail polish!

My MBK has been my introduction to snake musk. He doesn't do it often, thank goodness, because it is gross.

My MBK wasn't my introduction to snake musk, but he was my REMINDER of it. Yuck. Luckily, if I get him out slowly--gently sweep the substrate away that he burrows in and wait until he gets curious and starts cruising to take him out--he doesn't musk. I definitely learned right away not to just grab him like I do the corns! And I think my guy is quite relaxed. Thank goodness.

They are such beauties, though, aren't they?
