Hamsters?

i know it's been asked before and i did a search to find a nutritional chart, but to be quite honest, i'm not really sure exactly what i'm looking at. My question to some of the experts on here, could i feed my snakes exclusively on hamsters? or would it be too hazardous due to amounts of fat.

The reason i ask is b/c i have a cousin who "accidently" keeps putting her hamsters together who happen to be male and female, and well...we know the rest. Plus they dont have the odor that mice do. Anyway, is it ok or should i just stick to buying bulk?

PS~ Rich, the site looks great. this is my first time back in a while and just noticing the changes.

Anyone?

I know i may have trouble converting them back to mice if i ever wished to do so, but that's a risk i'm willing to take.

My adult i have at the min lives on mice, but for a change i will give him a hamster or gerbil, and every 4 weeks a 1 day old chick. I haven't had a problem reverting back to mice afterward's because i feed when the snake is hungry (usually every 7 days but sometimes as long as 2 weeks after a larger then usuall chick). A 1lb (0.45kg) snake only needs 5.5kcal per day, and a mouse contains 85kcal onaverage for a large mouse, agter you take away excersice and handleing practases, 1 mouse is suitable every 7-10 days on average.

Hamsters would most likely be fine if you are willing to take the risk of not being able to switch them back to mice...

A few things to keep in mind...A hamster litter contains 6-8 pups whereas a mouse litter contains 10-30 pinks per litter...Also if you feed hamsters make sure you feed, f/t or f/k...Hamsters have wickedly long teeth and can fight a heck of alot better and their bite does more damage then a mouse bite...Just a few things to ponder...

HTH alittle bit...

I will probably think of a few more things later on but right now the brain is not working..lol..

ok, thanks guys. I was doing some pricing online, and honestly it's not worth the trouble. It's a lot easier to buy in bulk and not have to worry with freezing, air tight sealing and all that. I appreciate the responses though.
