Handling Question

Hi there. I have a 3 mo. old snake who is very sweet, very calm. My question is, what would be the ideal amount of time to handle a snake this young? I usually hold her for about 15-20 minutes a day, in which she'll either sit curled through my fingers or explore my hair and the inside of my clothing. She likes to have her skin rubbed, and will arch her batch along the trail of my finger as I stroke her.

Should I be holding her more? Less? I know frequent handling is good when they're young, but I don't want to stress my snake.

What you doing is just fine. You can do short sessions 2 or 3 times a day. As long as the snake does not act stressed out, they will tell you, you are fine. Enjoy "playing" with your little one!

Sounds fine to me! :) Like NFS07 said, just look out for signs of stress. If she seems to be enjoying herself, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about!

again as they'v said your doing it right and when she grows up you'l have a lovely snake to play with:) (i'm sure you know not to handle for 48 hours after feeding).

I try to hold mine at least 3-4 times a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. I'll usually hold for at least 20 minutes, so I'm not taking them out and putting them away right away. It's been a rough guideline for me, but it seems to work out well for me.

mine get handled very frequently. they begin starting to act stressed, they get put back. my snow corn is my oldest and most laid back. it isn't uncommon for me to just let her be on me where she wants to be while going about my business around the house. i answered the door for a salesman once, and had forgotten she was in my shirt pocket. so, she's sticking her head out tasting the air at this guy while i'm talking with him. he had the greatest look on his face! he left somewhat abrubtly. it was beautiful to behold.

ie, just what everyone else has said. you're doing fine with handling it seems.

Oh, that's too bad. she missed pooping on you! lol. i think of that cuz my caramel just pooped on me a few hours ago. it seems with all the snakes i have here one would have done this a long time ago. next time, maybe your little one will have better aim! hehehehe
