Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Fishin Pole

Corn-fed & Brain Dead
Hello All

Well our second clutch of eggs have finally all hatched out, we only had 3 good eggs out 7, but this is my major concern....The pics show a growth attached to the side of the body...It almost looks like the innards of the snake on the outside (best way to describe it, sorry)...This was the last hatchling and she hatched 2 days after eveyone else....She is much smaller than the other 2....She only came out of the shell this morning and i expected her to not be living when i came home from work today, but she seems just as active as the other 2 and moves just fine, no odd movements or strange behaviour....Has anyone ever seen this type of growth and do you think she will make it?

I believe it may be the umbilical cord where it was attached to the yolk sac. Usually it dries off and falls off after awhile. Don't pick at it or cut it.

It look like it could the umbilicus. I am on my phone so I am not able to view the pictures real well but if that is the case just put her on damp paper towels and allow it to fall off on its own. Is the second pic of the top of the snake? If so that baby has an awesome pattern.

Thanks, for the answers, i sorta thought it could be that, but i have never seen this on any of my other hatches......As far as the snake, she does have some strange patterns....Mom is a creamcicle and Dad is a snow....I included some more pics of it, just to show the strangeness of her coloring

She sure is neat. Make sure you post more pictures after she sheds. I would love to see an update on her. Most the time babies do completely absorb the umbilicus but sometimes a baby will pop out before they are completely ready. Which is one of the reasons we strongly recommend not messing with babies as they are hatching (not saying that you did) but sometimes they just chose to come out early anyway.

I agree with not messing with them....The first hatchling was hanging its head out of the shell for 3 days till it finally got brave and enter its new world....The one pictured above is much smaller (about half the size) than the first 2 that hatched form this clutch....They both look like either an Amel or creamcicle....The third one looks really odd, hope it eats for me when the time comes

Others having posted similar pictures, usually more of the cord there, and the advice given was to have them on paper towels in their small enclosures, so as not to irritate the cord. Just repeating what I've read and giving unasked for advice! Sorry about that. I channel my mother sometimes.

Oh, the snakeling sure is a cutey!
