How long between feeding attempts should we wait? All of our babies have freshly shed...all 29 of them...and we just fed them last Saturday night...is seven days a good time period to wait?
From what I've found its nearly impossible to overfeed hatchlings; they just put so much of what they eat into growing, and feeding them a little more often seems to give them a nice jump start. I've heard of people feeding every three days for the first few feedings.
In the begining (first 3-5 feeds) I would feed them every 7 days to make sure they are hungry, also then you aren't bothering(scaring) them as much either. Then once they are good eaters and more used to you and your hand, every 5 days is good for hatchlings, of course if they are growing fast, they will need larger pinkies as well. Good luck with them all.
I've had really good luck with every 4 days. Mine got their 1st feeding last Saturday night and will ge another one on Wednesday night. I've never had problems getting them to eat on the 4th day. I like to see mine gain size quickly in the beginning.
We've actually started with F/T...at first we gave the heads to the smaller snakes and the bodies the bigger ones, only one ate on that attempt...the next attempt we just gave them all F/T whole pinkies, 10 ate. The next time we will give them whole pinkies again but brain them this time and see if that helps.
I feed my hatchlings between 4-7 day intervals..
They each get 2 pinkies,as i dont wanna fatten them up too quickly, and have heard that "powerfeeding" isnt always a good thing, and that it does sometimes cause impaction in later years..
