Heat Lamp Questions

Newbie here.
I'm starting to assemble the things I will need for when I get my corn (hopefully soon). I was given an infrared heat lamp (this one), 50 watts. Could I use this instead of a UTH? I have a 20 gal tall aquarium I plan to use.

So here are my questions:
Will this light provide enough/too much heat (I have no thermometers yet, so just a rough estimate)
Do I keep the light on all the time, even at night, to provide adequate heat, or should I turn it off at night (I live in Florida, it doesn't get very cold here, even at night)?
Is it okay to leave it on for long periods of time. I've heard that if those kinds of lights overheat they can catch fire... is that true?
Where should I place the lamp? Do I place it on the screen lid or clip it to something nearby?

Sorry for so many questions. Thanks! :)

Hey rejohnson53,

First, I am going say read some posts and buy a book.

Second, To answer your question, You need a UTH and a T-stat.
Third, All other questions do not need answers because you need a UTH and T-stat.

Sorry to sound like a Big Fat Meanie, but if the shoe fits wear it.

First i agree it would be best with a heat mat but i use both ir red bulbs i use in a wooden vivs the mats on rubs glass/plastic tanks the bulbs give you a better ambient temp in bigger vivs always use a stat with any heat source untill you get this dont use any heat but make sure the temp is about 70f or over i would not feed while you are waiting for your stat to come as your snake will not be able to digest properly it wont harm to not feed for a week or two untill your stat arrives but if it is fed and temps are to low the food could rot inside the snake as it wont be able to digest it properly
